Maryland Comptroller’s Office
Mr. Maschas serves as an Assistant Director in the Maryland Comptroller’s office, Baltimore Compliance Division. As Assistant Director, he is in charge of administering the Business Tax Field Audit and Unclaimed Property sections.
For nearly four years, Mr. Maschas was an Assistant Manager in the Hearings & Appeals section. As an Assistant Manager, he supervised five Hearing Officers who were licensed attorneys in the State of Maryland.
Prior to his role as an Assistant Manager, Mr. Maschas was a Hearing Officer in the Hearing & Appeals section. During nearly six years as a Hearing Officer, he resolved thousands of tax appeals from individuals, small businesses, tax-exempt entities, and Fortune 500 companies involving individual and corporation income, sales and use, employment, and admissions & amusement taxes.
Mr. Maschas holds a Juris Doctor degree from University of the Pacific – McGeorge School of Law as well as a Masters Degree in Taxation from Villanova University and Bachelor of Arts Degrees in Business Management and Economics from Washington College. He is a licensed attorney in Maryland and Pennsylvania, and a member of the Maryland State Bar Association, Taxation Section. Mr. Maschas was the Chair of the MSBA Taxation Section for 2016 – 2017.
