Sonia Shaikh counsels clients on a variety of federal, state, and local tax matters. She has broad experience across more than 30 taxing jurisdictions. In addition to offering general tax counsel, she specializes in related business planning and controversy work. Sonia has experience in the formation and expansion of tax-exempt entities and other tax-efficient business structures. Previously, Sonia was a senior associate at an international accounting firm, where she provided tax controversy services through the audit and administrative appeals phases. She also has served as a research fellow with the Council on State Taxation and as a legal intern with the D.C. Office of Tax and Revenue. She holds an LL.M. in Taxation from Georgetown University Law Center. Sonia earned her J.D. from the George Washington University Law School and is an honors graduate of the University of Arizona. She is currently the vice chair of the District of Columbia’s State and Local Tax Committee, an Associate Editor for the American Bar Association’s The Young Lawyer “TYL” Magazine, and a member of the American Bar Association, Section of Taxation.
