Lauren Shipley is the Executive Director for Maryland 529, formerly College Savings Plans of Maryland. An independent Maryland State agency that administers the two State offered 529 plans, Maryland 529 looks to help Maryland families better prepare themselves to meet future college costs and reduce reliance on student debt. She leads an organization whose Board includes the State Treasurer, State Comptroller, Secretary of the Maryland Higher Education Commission, State Superintendent of Schools and the Chancellor of the University System of Maryland, as well as five additional members appointed by the Governor. Lauren comes with a wealth of experience within the 529 industry, having spent the last seven years as the Director of Marketing for Maryland 529, where she was instrumental in increased Plan participation and growth. Joining Maryland 529 in early 2009, Lauren brought over 15 years of professional experience to the job, including 8 years’ experience at the Vanguard Group, a leading mutual fund company. In addition, Lauren spent over 2 years as a financial aid counselor at La Salle University in Philadelphia while completing her MBA, where she graduated as a member of the Beta Gamma Sigma Business Honors Society. Lauren has a diverse background with expertise in customer service, communications, and operations. Her work experience adds the perfect mix to her role at Maryland 529.
