The most recent few years have seen an explosive growth in attacks on the data of businesses and the national concern and emphasis on preventing security breaches and mitigating the effects of actual systems penetrations. We have seen guidance from the IRS in IRS Pub. 4557; expansion of IRS security requirements for electronic filing in IRS Pub. 1345; the release of an IRS data security guide in IRS Pub. 5293; new requirements for written internet security systems from the FTC and IRS and numerous warnings from the FBI, IRS and other government agencies.
